TITLE
VCSA "Myths" IG Stories #1-2
2021
WHO
For the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs🡥 during my time with the International Students & Programs Office🡥 at UC San Diego!
WHAT / WHY
A 30 second vertical motion graphic video that was made to spread knowledge about COVID-19 during UC San Diego's Return to Learn campaign.
📖 PROCESS
I was contacted by the VCSA to produce an Instagram Story that they could run on the large UCSD affiliated IG accounts. They only had a rough script, but everything else was up in the air in terms of how to apply it to video. They were trying to get it out quick to keep up with updates on COVID-19, so this was produced tightly in about a week and a half.
STEP ONE: GENERATING AN IDEA
I was reached out to specifically for this because the VCSA
wanted to emulate a social media campaign that I had helped
bring to life at ISPO: the
Myths Orientation Series🡥.
As a result, I was confident that I could generate something
quickly, and came out with a mockup within a few days.
STEP TWO: PRODUCTION
I was playing with the mysterious quality from the word "Myth"
when I decided to illustrate the stoic Stone Henge-esque art
installation that is Richard Fleischner's
La Jolla Project. That mixed with some depth and camera
effects could give the mysterious a more polished feel.
Due to time constraints, I did the voice-over myself in my
bedroom. Conveniently, I already had some high quality audio
equipment from producing the
Triton Tools & Tidbits Podcast🡥
just a few months earlier.
STEP THREE: QUICK REVISE & SEND IT
Channeling the incoming October spirit, I had initial
coordinated the art design to head towards a spooky direction.
Worried that this could be tonally misconstrued, VCSA asked to
readjust to make it much brighter and happier, which is what
stuck till the final version.
Some final copywrite was done to the text which was integrated
in, before being checked by UCSD health officials, and before
you know it, it was live!
